Bidriware

Bidriware is a metal handicraft from Bidar district, as its name indicates. It uses an alloy of zinc, copper and other non-ferrous metals. Various attractive designs are first engraved on this alloy and then inlaid with pure silver wire or sheet. The article is then dipped in a solution prepared with a special soil found only around Bidar fort. This soil has oxidizing properties and imparts the black background that characterizes Bidriware.

Traditionally, hookahs and vases were the main items in Bidriware. Now, the range comprises a wide variety of functional and decorative products like earrings and other jewelry, trays, bowls, ornament boxes, souvenirs, and keepsakes.
